When you buy a prepaid funeral plan, you’re choosing to fix key funeral costs at today’s prices.
How can a funeral plan help?
Pre-paid funeral plans are a good way to take care of funeral arrangements in advance so that your loved ones won’t have to worry about deciding on what type of funeral you would have wanted.
You also protect them from having to find the money to pay for key funeral costs when you pass away and as you pay at today’s prices, you’re also them shielding from potential future price increases.
What does a funeral plan include?
A traditional pre-paid funeral plan includes the essential elements of a funeral. A plan lets you select the key funeral arrangements in advance. We have a choice of plans that allow you to have a cremation or a burial funeral. You can choose the type of coffin, how many limousines you want (if any) as well as note any special requests or personal preferences for the day of the funeral such as flowers, songs or readings.
If your Special Requests incur a cost and are not included in your plan, these will have to be paid for by your Nominated Representative at the time of need.
For people that don’t want all the fuss that comes with a traditional funeral it’s possible to have a funeral plan that includes a cremation without a service or mourners present (commonly known as a direct cremation), or one with a family-led service at a crematorium.
What a plan includes differs across Avalon’s range of plans and between Avalon and other providers, so please ensure you are aware of what your plan includes and doesn’t include before making a purchase.
How can I pay for a funeral plan?
We offer a range of flexible payment methods. You can either pay for your plan in full or spread the cost with monthly payments.
In the UK:
- You can pay in a lump sum or over 12 months with no additional charges.
- You can pay by flexible monthly instalments by paying a deposit now and spreading the cost over two to 15 years. This option is subject to an annual instalment charge, full details of the charge can be found in the plan terms and conditions.
In Europe:
- You can pay in a lump sum or over 18 months with no additional charges.
- You can pay by flexible monthly instalments by paying a deposit now and spreading the cost over two to five or ten years depending on which plan you choose. This option is subject to an annual instalment charge, full details of the charge can be found in the plan terms and conditions.
For further flexibility, you can increase your payments or pay off the outstanding balance at any point. Our payment options are designed to suit you and your needs, but the sooner you can pay off your plan, the cheaper it will be.
How is the funeral arranged?
Funeral plans provide help and support at a difficult time.
When the plan is needed, your family or next of kin can contact our bereavement team who will put the plan into motion:
We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
You will need to confirm the plan holder’s details and ideally provide the funeral plan number.
We will inform your Funeral Director, who will make the arrangements you have chosen in your funeral plan.
How can I buy a funeral plan?
You can book a consultation to speak with an Avalon Funeral Plan specialist either on the phone or on a video call and in Europe we can arrange a home-visit.
Over a cup of tea, an Avalon expert will find out more about your personal situation and requirements – from whether you’d prefer a cremation or burial, to whether you’d prefer a traditional service, a family-led service or a celebration of life following a direct cremation which doesn’t include a service or allow mourners present at a crematorium.
We’ll ask you about the size of your family and if you might want limousines to take them to the funeral. We’ll talk to you about how you can personalise your funeral with special requests, such as your favourite flowers, songs, hymns and readings.
