The Portuguese funeral system is different to the UK system in many ways, with funerals traditionally taking place within 48 hours of the death. This may make it difficult for loved ones to make arrangements and for family in the UK to attend the funeral.

You die as a result of an accident at any time- When you die your plan has already been in place for 12 months for a UK plan or 18 months for one of our Europe plans
This means your loved ones won’t have to make up the difference for the cost of the services in the plan and can focus on celebrating your life, instead of worrying about finding the money to pay for your funeral.

Do I need two funeral plans if I spend time living in the UK and Portugal?
No, you only need one funeral plan. If you spend time living in the UK and Portugal you can choose Dual Certification, this can provide a funeral in either country depending on where you die. Dual certification does not include repatriation. See the terms and conditions for more information.
Has Brexit affected my funeral plan?
No. Whether you are a new or existing Avalon customer, you are still covered in both countries.
If you do decide to move back to the UK permanently, you can convert your expat plan into a UK plan free of charge (terms and conditions apply).
How can I pay for my funeral plan?
You can choose to pay for your funeral plan either in full or in monthly payments over several years.
For further flexibility, you can increase your payments or pay off the outstanding balance at any point. Our payment options are designed to suit you and your needs, but the sooner you can pay off your plan, the cheaper it will be.
You can also choose whether you would like to pay for your funeral plan in Pounds or Euros.
Can I choose a burial or a cremation funeral plan?
Yes. Our plans offer a range of options whether you wish to be buried or cremated in this country, or for your body to be repatriated for cremation in mainland Great Britain. Please note plans do not include burial plots.
